In Loving Memory...

How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard...

We were blessed with the company of these beautiful, wonderful creatures and we will miss them dearly.

I know all of you are in a better place now in that great big pasture in the sky.

 Jitter Bug -

Jitter came to us from Bastrop County. She was seized from her former owners along with 2 other mares. Unfortunately, the damage done was too great and her body just couldn't handle the stresses. She was so sweet and perky, it was obvious she hadn't been handled much, but in our short time together she was really starting to come around. It breaks my heart and I only wish things like this didn't happen. Our time together was too short.

Summer Splash -

Summer was a spicy little mare who came to us from a family that couldn't afford to care for her anymore, and she didn't take long to prove that just because she was an old lady, didn't mean she had any less spunk, or even a 'lady' for that matter. She lived here at MHHR for a couple of years, but she did manage to find a great home to enjoy her retirement, and live out the rest of her days, eating to her heart's content in the pasture with her best buddy, a black Thoroughbred mare named Gaze.

You will be missed, and I know you're still just as good at stealing cookies.

 Granny -

Sometimes, you meet a horse that is just special. Not tall, not stunning, not outstanding in any way, but they impact you in ways you never expected. Granny did that for a lot of people at MHHR, but perhaps mostly me. She was sweet, and never did she so-much as pin her ears at any animal. She was always the first to greet you in the morning, and the last one at your side when you walked through the pasture. She was short in stature, but great in our hearts, and she left us all too soon.

Rag Town Tuff -

We lost Tuffy a long time before we started to rescue horses, but he was an amazing horse, and I know in my heart I will always love him. He was the biggest baby I'd ever had the privilege to meet, and I was glad to know him. I miss him all the time, and I always will. He knew no stranger, and we used to run barrels in a sheepskin nose band and everyone thought we were crazy, but he knew what he was doin'.

Love You Tuff.

Tucker -

Sept. 14, 2010

"We had to say goodbye to our beloved Tucker today, although he was with us a very short time, he won our hearts with his personality, his kindness, and his will to live. He unfortunately developed a hidden infection and due to his emaciated condition, he was unable to fight it off.

We will miss him dearly! Please, Please donate to Meadow Haven so that Darla can continue to save other horses lives and give them the chance that she gave Tucker."

                                                           - Lori

 Sassy -

Koda -

You Will be Missed.

Fez -

We Will Miss You!

 Smokey -

A wonderful, sweet horse who had a tragic accident at his adoptive home. A terrible ending to an amazing, sweet boy, but at least now he's living it up in that big pasture in the sky.

Top Creek Deck -

Tac -

Tac was an unexpected arrival, but a welcomed one just the same. We found him on the side of the road, stumbling around, and with no mother anywhere to be found, action had to be taken to make sure we didn't lose him. He was tiny, and adorable, and we bottle fed him, and he grew up to be big, and strong.

He was eventually adopted, and sired a few of his own, but unfortunately, he passed last year unexpectedly.

He was a sweet, easy-going guy, and a real lover, and that's no bull.

 Dakota -

Dakota was always a bit off, but with a little patience and understanding, she would let you pet her, and brush her, and eventually she relaxed more and more around people.

She will be missed, but she knew love and a good home before she went.

Lariat -

We purchased Lariat from an auction in Seguin, about 6 months before we started our rescue. She was a feisty little mare with a big heart, and an even bigger buck. She was adopted out and had an unfortunate accident at her adoptive home last year. Far too young, but in a better place just the same.

Goodbye ol' girl, you really were a horse of a different color.

Sarge -

I'm sorry you were forced to endure what you did before coming to us, but I'm glad you got to know what love and a full belly was. You were a total sweetie, and you really left a mark. We'll miss you.

 Chief -

We will miss you dearly, but at least now you will never again take a painful step, or struggle to walk. Instead, you can run through the pastures of heaven and know you're loved and missed.

Maggie -

 You Will be Missed.

Chico & Geronimo -

Thank you for my childhood, and thank you for the 38 years of love and devotion. You were both wonderful, and I will carry you in my heart for the rest of my days.

                    - Darla

Judge -

Judge was adopted and when he turned 2, was sent to a trainer, where his leg was broken in the turnout pasture, after which he was humanely euthanized.

Skipper & Gilligan -

Surrendered by a dude ranch in HORRIBLE condition, these two had a very long road to recovery. They had been together for years, and it was only natural to stay that way. They lived with us here for a few more years, and Skipper, passed away due to old age, and Gilligan followed shortly after.

Two sweet horses, and it is a shame that they had worked so hard to be treated the way they had been. At least with us they experienced full bellies and kind words. We love you both, and miss you dearly.
