| Meadow Haven was called about an abandon horse in South San Antonio, who was
left tied to a gate. The landowner tried her best to care
for the horse for several months before contacting us. When she
stated she thought she was a Tennessee Walking Horse, we were somewhat
doubtful since this breed is not very common to the area.
To our delight, she was right!
"Tennessee" is an elderly TN Walking horse mare who
was starved. She appears to be a Big Lick Horse with the
scaring of her legs and misshape of her hoofs. (Click on the following links to learn about abuses to gaited horses: Bridlepath Hall of Shame: the “big lick” TWH industry & What is Soring?)
The vet
agreed with our designation of her background. She must have quite a story
to tell, coming most likely from the Tennessee area, all the way to Texas.
Now she can rest and be sure that she will no longer endure the pain of chains and
scalding. We hope she will become good friends with Denver, our other
elderly TN Walker, when she gets out of quarantine. She is a delightful,
forgiving mare and is eating everything in sight! |

| This beautiful Palomino came up lame with navicular after being purchased by
his new owner. Unfortunately they were unable to return the horse and unable
to pay for ongoing treatment on an uncertain outcome. He was donated to
Meadow Haven and adopted at a children's camp getting lots of love, grooming
and TLC. His new owner is working on trying to return him to soundness for
leadline use. Regardless if he should ever become rideable again, he has a
forever loving home on 500 acres. |

| Fred was a rental horse at a dude ranch and was continuing to loose weight. He is an elderly horse and the group feeding situation at the ranch was not working for him, as he takes a long time to eat and needs extra calories. The owner decided he was too skinny to keep him on the string and surrendered him to Meadow Haven Horse Rescue, rather than sending him to auction (Thank You!). He is in rehab in Hondo while he is slowly gaining weight, and enjoying his retirement. We hope he can some day return to very light pleasure use, but has a long way to go. If you would like to sponsor Fred, please send your donation indicating that it is for Fred’s feed and veterinary care. |

| Meadow Haven Horse Rescue was contacted by a concerned neighbor about the mare in the photo. She was tied around the neck with a cord to a truck for several days in the heat and had only a pan of water. Her eye was in extremely poor condition. The sheriffs dept did a welfare check but the vet was not called. We sent out mass emails to individuals and welfare organizations to assist in the removal of this horse and its care. At last, Investigators from East Texas arrived on the scene and took the horse. The horse unfortunately was not removed in time and had to be euthanized. |

| Kerr County Animal control called Meadow Haven to accept a mare with a severe abscess on her belly. The County did not have a place to put her and was unable to take her. The owner was ill and not able to afford medical treatment and the horse had been left with a trainer who could not continue paying her expenses. Meadow Haven Horse Rescue found an immediate placement for the Reg. 3 yr old Quarter Horse and she was surrendered. She is recovering nicely in her new home. |
