A New Home for MHHR!
To say the least, these last few months have been a very trying time for Meadow Haven Horse Rescue. We have experienced some ultimate highs and some very significant lows. When we were informed that our lease would not be renewed, we were both surprised and anxious. This was a situation we had never found ourselves in, and it was an unpleasant one. Not only were we being displaced, but we also our four-legged family to also consider.
We quickly began searching for the right home for Meadow Haven. It had to be one that was safe and suitable to house the amount of horses we currently had at our facility. With donations at an all time low, we also had to be realistic in our searches. We knew one thing, leasing was no longer an option for us, we needed to find a permanent home. We searched all over, before we really agreed that we needed to stay in the same general area. We simply couldn’t leave the wonderful folks at Falls City Milling, or our veterinarians at the Nixon Animal Clinic and Shiner Animal Hospital. These relationships have been years in the making, and they are a huge reason we’re able to continue helping the animals we’re able to.
We looked for weeks and weeks stretched into months, it seemed that we just couldn’t find the right place, and to make matters worse, our credit situation isn’t the best it could be, and that was proving to be a huge hurdle. It was then that our wonderful Secretary, Diane Davis, and her husband Bill Windham, called with the best news we had heard, perhaps ever. They wanted to help Meadow Haven Horse Rescue purchase its new, permanent home.
As they say, the rest is history!
It has been a long, hard road to get here, but the journey was so worth it. Settling into our forever home began on May 23, 2014. Though there is a large amount of work to be done and projects to begin, for the moment, just having somewhere to call “home” is enough for us.
Without the help and support of these wonderful people, there is really no telling what would have happened. This was so much more than we could have ever hoped for. We cannot begin to express our gratitude for such a selfless and kind act. It is more than apparent that your large hearts are truly interested in the well-being of the animals in our care. Thank you both, we love you so very much and we are beyond thankful that God placed you in our path. We are able to rest easy knowing that these horses (and donkeys!) have a place that no one can take from them!
